Memories Together Tag

Hi Folks

Georgie here today, and I have been experimenting with my Dina Wakley again!!

I've been trying get in to the hand-of-the-artist mode. I'm always so keen to blend everything out and together, so this was a real challenge for me not to give into temptation.

I focused primarily on getting 'texture' on the sweet little bird with this technique, I started by laying down colour, Lapis, Sky and a touch of Gilt. I also added some Gilt to the black outline to give the effect of golden light reflecting back. I left some areas white and also used the White Acrylic Paint to knock back the colours a touch. I found this looked better than just leaving the colours to stand alone. This means drying completely before this layer is very important.

The words, Memories Together, Remember Paradise were chosen for exactly that, looking back on memories with friends and family, remembering the fabulous times always leave you with that 'feel good' inside glow, that to me it is a kind of paradise.

Here is a close up of the paint strokes on the Scribbly Bird (Stamp design by Dina Wakley). Here you can see the knock-back with the white and you can also see the background stamping coming in, bleeding through the colour on the bird too. :) Love this effect too!

The background was painted with Ruby, Tangerine and Lemon Acrylic Paints by Dina Wakley. I always love this colour combo together! The stamp bubbles are from Finnabairs, Don't Forget to Fly set, and the Tweet. Chirp. is part of the Scribbly bird set.

Hope you're having a very lovely start to the week and I will catch up with you all very soon!
Hugs

Luscious layers !!

Morning all, Tracy here with today's blog offering...

I love playing in my large Dylusions journal, it's my favourite journal at present to play in. The paper and size is perfect for all my acrylic journal pages and can handle multiple layers with no problem.

I love to do multi layered pages and for my latest journal page I have used a mix of the amazing Dina Wakley acrylic paints, delicious Dylusions acrylic paints and gorgeous Golden heavy body acrylic paints. I don't think I can say I have a real favourite between the three brands and they work together so well.

I love creating lots of lovely layers on my pages and this one was no exception. Continuing to add layers of paint, stamping with archival ink with the fabulous Dylusions background stamps and using various distress inks and stencilling with both Dina and Dyan's amazing stencils.

Finger painting is an absolute must for me when creating this type of layered page and all of the layers have been done with this technique continually adding and covering up the previous layers.....so you might be asking yourself why ???.... Why bother to paint layers if you are just going to cover them up with another layer after.... Well the answer is simple....you do not get the same sense of depth on your pages if you only have one layer and can see everything that is there.

Don't be afraid to keep going adding and covering your page with paint, don't be afraid of stamping over the top and then covering some of that stamping with paint, and don't be afraid to add to wet paint so that the colours smear together. Acrylic paint is so forgiving, once it's dry you can paint straight over the top so what is there to be afraid of !!

I'd love to see all your lusciously layered journal pages...come on...what are you afraid of ???

Bright and painty hugs

Just hanging!

Good morning, It's Clare here today and I would like to show you a mixed media door hanger I made for today's post. It was one of those projects where you have an idea in your head and then ended up going off on a completely different tangent!

For this project I used:
Dylusions paints squeezed orange/white

I started of by adding some texture through a stencil with the modeling paste. Once dried I assembled the Prima wood icons in a box along with some die cuts and other bits and bobs from my treasure box with the matte medium.
As soon as my arrangement was dry I covered with black gesso. After, I started to add in some colour with the Dylusion paints highlighting the bottom corner so that I could stamp on my sentiment.
To finish off I added some liquid pearls, gems and Finnabair mica powders.
Even though it didnt turn out as planned, as always I enjoyed the crafty journey that got me to my finished project.
That's it from me today. Wishing you all a fabulous weekend.
Crafty hugs,

Black Poppy with Alcohol Inks

Morning, folks!  I've been playing with alcohol inks, and getting them to move over my glossy card using an air duster (a can of compressed air, available from your local computer shop).

Alcohol inks dry really quickly.  Using a straw will move the ink before it dries but an air duster also allows you an element of control over the shape, so it enables you to build up petal-like layers.

Here's how my flower started off:
A few blobs dropped directly onto glossy card, each one given a little blast of air.  Check out the inky fingerprint!
Add some drops of blending solution in the centre and watch it push the colour out, then introduce greens and blues in the background.
Keep on adding drops of ink, blasting with air.  A gentle blast of air gives you the frilly edges on the flowers (as on the left) and a sharp blast of air gives you the spiky edges (on the right).
You don't have a lot of control over the finished flower, but you get some pretty results!
Looks good in yellow, too!

You can find Adirondack Alcohol Inks, Blending Solution and glossy card here.

Blooms

Good morning folks, how are you? Today I wanted to share a little bit of journaling with you. One of our more recent dark evenings, I found myself in need of some cheering up so, I headed off to my craft room to dig out my journal.

For the background I blended Dylusions paint. I used Lemon zest & Vibrant turquoise. I added some background stamping using the numbers from Tim Holtz Stuff to Say stamp set.

I painted a piece of card with my Dina Wakely media line paints and then stamped some circles from the Finnabair Don't forget to fly stamp set. I adhered these into my journal and sketched in my blooms. I then added a coat of white paint to my flower petals and dried before adding some colour to the petals and some shading with Inktense pencils.

Finally, with my white and black paint pens, I added some doodling and the word 'blooms' to my project. Sitting and creating in my journal really cheered up my dark, dull evening.

Thanks for stopping by today.
Happy crafting,

Joy

Hello!
I wanted to create a simple Christmas plaque as my project today... not many colours, not loads of distracting detail... I hope it works!

I covered an MDF panel with music paper, then gave it a wash of white gesso. A further wash of sky blue paint, and that was it!
I covered the panel with a layer of clear gesso, as I knew I wanted to add wet media in the form of watercolour pencils. The clear gesso gives an even 'tooth' layer, enabling the watercolours to move about freely, whilst still being able to see through to the layers underneath.
I sketched out and coloured my figure..

As i mentioned, watercolour pencils for the face, then I coloured her hair with blue acrylic ink. I added sprinkles of white UTEE as the snow, and also drew some larger flakes with a white gel pen..

My word is a die cut word from Hero Arts, I cut it from thin card then used gilding flakes over the top to give the silver metallic sheen..

Have a fabulous day,
Trish xx

Abstract alcohol inks !!

Good morning
Tracy here with today's post....

Sometimes you need to just let go and play with no preconceived idea, refresh your inspiration and be free.

My favourite way to do this is to get out my trusty alcohol inks and alcohol gloss card......

I love the random patterns that alcohol inks make when you drop them onto a multitude of surfaces but the gloss card really does enable the inks to spread and create completely abstract results....

Using a straw to blow the ink around can create some fabulous effects....

Once I have a completed piece and allowed it to dry I love to sit and mindlessly doodle over my alcohol ink patterns with black and white gel pens, I love how every single piece is different and no two will ever be the same...

If you do this technique on white ceramic tiles all you need to do is wipe the tile over with alcohol blending solution and then start to drip the colours onto the tile. The colours spread instantly and you can drop colours inside of colours to create some great effects. They would make a fabulous gift as a set of multi coloured coasters !!!

Come on get out your alcohol inks, dust them off and play.....you'll have a blast but be warned...it's addictive !!!

Thank you for stopping by

A Peaceful Time - Journal Page

Hello!

Georgie here today with you and I'm sharing another journal page. This page was purely about letting go completely caring and just being free on the page with a handful of colours. The experience was quite freeing, and peaceful. Hence the title.

Allow the colours free movement, spritzing with water is perfect for this, but do allow each layer to dry throughly before the next.

Some stamping of Finnabair's text bubbles, and shadowed with some Intense pencils.

Double background stamping, once with black ink and then with UTEE. I love the way these colours have mingled together and the black contrasts!!

Thanks so much my lovelies, that's all from me for today,
Hugs
Georgie

Decorated Storage Jar

Hi guys, Shirley here with a decorated storage jar.  The plain empty jar was sitting unloved on a shelf in the garage so I thought I'd give it a makeover.

I started by prising off the plastic stopper on the lid, then brushed some Mod Podge on the insides and sprinkled in some Frosted Lake Mica Powder by Finnabair, replaced the stopper and gave it a good shake to distribute the powder.

Next, I pasted the outside of the jar with Mod Podge and adhered white tissue paper to provide a base for the next layer, then got my stamps ready.

Using the Finnabair Lace & Doily stamp set and Wire Net stamp, and Ranger Archival Ink in black, I covered a half-sheet of tissue paper in stamped images, leaving space between so that I could rip them apart.  You need to protect your work surface when stamping through tissue, because the ink will soak through.

I tore up the tissue then adhered it over the base layer,

then raided my stash of beads, ribbons and embellishments to pretty it up, mixed more Frosted Lake mica powder with gum arabic and water and painted around the shoulder and lower portion of the jar, and added some Frosted mica flakes around the base.  I added a light brushing of Mod Podge onto the coin charm then a dusting of Pale Silver mica powder.

Pretty, don't you think?  Think I'll have another look in the garage, see what I can find ....

Don't Forget To Fly triptych

Hello!
So... what do you do when you fancy making a triptych but don't have a suitable substrate? Make your own!

This little number was made from a cardboard box. I decided how big I wanted the middle panel to be, based upon the size of the main figure image, then cut two pieces this size from a bit of old box. One of those pieces was cut in half, leaving me with 3 bits....

I joined the pieces together with sticky backed canvas. Nice and sturdy, but flexible. Make sure you leave a gap between the 2 bits of card, as this is how a nice 'hinge' is created.

Stick a bit of canvas on both sides..

Once you've done both sides, the triptych shape is revealed..

Now it can be covered with either copy paper or old book pages...

And can then be decorated!

I used a mixture of Finnabair stamps, the main image figure:

And some circles..

And some butterflies!

Everything was painted with Dina Wakely paint, before grunging the designs up a little. I used black water soluble pencil, then blurred the lines with a waterbrush to create dark shadows.

Have a great day!
