I've just spent two weeks sorting and emptying the home of my late parents in law in the UK. The task was at times emotional but also turned up lots of surprises along the way. My Mother in law was great at hanging on to just about everything and my Father in law was into family history research. As you can imagine the amount of ephemera and memorabelia had reached epic proportions which at times was overwhealming. As custodians of this history we had to sift out some of the bits which didn't fit into any family history context but had some interest and these are the things that I squirreled away to use in journal and mini book projects. This is just a small selection of stuff I acquired.
I decided to make a mini album to keep some of these pieces in one place. Using old cardboard, calico and old pieces of tattered lace and cotton doilies I hand stitched and machine stitched them into pages.
I don't normally do vintage that well and prefer instead to mix it with new papers and so when I saw this Jenni Bowlin paper from the Red Black collection, I knew the colour and theme would be absolutely perfect. I found a piece of spotty fabric with the same shade of red to create my spine and the journaling card from a Vintage deck and stickers also by Jenni Bowlin blended beautifully.
My title was an old un-loved chipboard alpha set which I've given a new lease of life to with Claudine Hellmuth Studio paint in this gorgeous shade of blue.
Next week I'll show you the inside but until then, have a good week.
