homemade washi tape

Hello everyone!

Washi tapes are very popular for sometime. I would love to have one...but I haven't. But than I thought why not to make it by myself?! You can use different tapes to make your own washi tape. And what is the best part, you can draw/stamp whatever you want! I had been thinking about using a masking tape but than I received amazing Prima Writers Tape from Vicki. This tape is fantastic! You can stamp on it, draw or use some mediums on it. Tape is sticky back.

To make a simple washi tape you will need:
- tape - for a background
- paint - to add some colour
- waterproof pen - if you want to draw something
- waterproof ink - for stamping
- stamp

I made two pieces, one is drawn and the other stamped.

At the first piece I used a paint with water as a background and than added only the paint in some places. At the second one I applied the paint using my finger.

My ATC using these tapes

Products which I used to make my ATC:
- Stampotique stamp
- Prima Writers Tape
- Claudine Hellmuth Studio Paint
- Sakura Pigma Micron Pen
- Ranger Archival Ink
- Ranger Liquid Pearls
- Glitz Design Yours Truly paper
- Claudine Hellmuth Studio Black Gesso
- Claudine Hellmuth Sticky-Back Canvas
- Donna Downey Studio stencil
- Jenni Bowlin paper

Panic....

Hello!
Back to my standard 'go to' comfort projects today...a painty panel!!!
I've been trying out a less is more approach to the background with this one, trying to get some detail simply with the colour (and a stencil!)
This is what I call my 'bruise' colour combo...yellow green and purple! Gesso on the 8 x 8 chipboard sheet to start with, just to make the colour pop. I then scraped texture paste through a stencil, before getting busy with the colour. I started with yellow, then added sponged and brayered layers of pale green, white and purple.....
Lots of thin layers, just building up the colours!
I sponged gesso through the stencil to give white highlights...
For my focal images, I used a new stamp for me, this Stampotique design, Tenticurl by Jo Capper Sandon....
Three images of varying sizes. The middle one is the full stamp, the smaller image has had a bit chopped off, and the bigger one has a bit added!
My Stampotique lady is looking a little nervous...
So I found a suitably apt quote from my stash of cut up book phrases! Those curly things definitely look scary to me........!
Have a nice weekend!

repainted canvas

Hello everyone!

Today I want to show you my repainted canvas. I used an old canvas where I had glued some paper circles and thread a long time ago. Sometimes I repaint my projects because I don't like them anymore. The once I don't like are likely to be repainted.

As I have said I used an old canvas with paper circles. I used Liquitex Gel Medium to make 100% sure that the circles would be glued properly to the background. Than I put a lot of different acrylic paints to the background. In some places you can see Ranger Liquid Pearls covered by acrylic paints.

Around a few circles I applied Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze. I also stamped Stampotique stamps using Ranger Archival Ink and in the middle of some circles I put drops of Dr.Ph.Martin's Bombay Indian Ink.

Between circles you can find dots which are made using Posca Paint Pens. The last touches – black gesso around the edges of the canvas.

Playing with layers.

I'm off for a couple of weeks on my holls so my inspiration for my blog post was to make a postcard in summery colours.

I started with a sheet of Glitz Uncharted waters paper which I used on my background and along with various other papers I die cut all my shape layers and glued them down to the postcard. I also had a small bit of Sticky backed canvas left so I used this to cut some pennants for the corner. Once everything was stuck down I went a bit mad with the Mr Hueys spray inks and just kept adding colours until I was happy with the effect and had unified most of the papers.

As a finishing touch I rubbed some gold paste over to give it a shine.

See you in a couple of weeks.

Puffy Heart Love!

Hello!
I've been playing with sticky backed canvas..... and I sewed a puffy heart!
I'll get to the heart in a minute.....
The base for this is a box frame, so a nice bit of depth...
The background is very easy, it just takes a while because of the drying issues! Firstly, I covered the frame with old book pages using multi medium. This is the first waiting time...multi medium is not over fond of the heat tool, heat too much and it starts to bubble and lift up whatever you've stuck down! So, once dry, I gave it a wash of brown paint which takes seconds! I sponged embossing ink through a stencil, then added green embossing powder to give the detail....
A tiny bit of black splatter stamping finished the design. Then it was part two of the waiting game as I covered the whole thing in clear crackle medium!
Whilst that was drying (it takes a good 2-3 hours even in this heat!) I created the heart. I drew a very rough heart on the canvas, then cut two shapes out. Now, sticky backed canvas is ....um.... sticky backed. This isn't really ideal when you want to sew it! I've found the best way round this is to peel off the backing paper, then pounce the sticky side with an anti static bag, one of those things you use before you emboss to stop stray powder sticking where you don't want it! I would imagine rubbing a little talcum powder over the sticky side would work too, if you don't have an anti static bag. Once the sticky wasn't sticky any more, I sewed part way around the heart, stuffed it with a little wadding, then sewed it up completely. Despite the heart being all soft and squishy, you can still treat it as a canvas surface.....so I painted it! Red Claudine Hellmuth paint to be precise.....
I also covered it in crackle paint......
Once all the crackles were dry, I glued the heart to the background.
The hanger is a piece of driftwood, decorated to match the background...
I hammered two nails into the top of the wooden frame, then wrapped wire around the driftwood and around the nails to join the two parts together.
I rubbed a little gold paint into the crackles here and there to highlight them, then added the Alphapart words as a finishing touch....
I think I'll be making more puffy canvas shapes, really enjoyed making this one!

2 in 1 journal

Hello everyone!

Today I have for you my 2in1 journal. I did some notes on loose sheets and I thought it would be nice to have some notebook to put them in. I didn't want to bind them it would be too easy. The great idea is to make a book from envelopes. You can put paper to the envelopes and still use the envelopes as pages for a journal.

I used:
- Ranger tag - Kraft
- Prima/Finnabair Sunrise Sunset
- Glitz Your Truly
- Bazzill Paper - Antique Newsprit
- Jenni Bowlin Grey Skinny Alphas
- Dylusion Spray Ink
- Stampotique stamps
- The Crafter's Workshop Balzer Designs stencil
- Ranger Archival Ink Jet Black

I simply made holes and used string to put them together.

Hidden Discovery...

Hello!
I've been playing with texture and 3D papercraft elements.....and came up with this.
The base is a chipboard sheet, my favourite 6" square size! I started off by cutting a sheet of dotty paper the same size as the chipboard. I ripped into the paper on both sides, then used a skewer to roll the paper around to give the rolled back look. A slip of more dotty paper under the ripped part completes the look.
I glued all the paper down onto the chipboard sheet base. The next step was to scrape texture paste through a stencil to get the harlequin detail....
Once that was dry, I added a little gesso here and there, just to create an uneven look, then got the spray inks out!
I have to admit that I have no clue as to how I ended up with the colours I have on this panel.... I used Dylusions Calypso Teal on the right hand side, and Dylusions Cherry Pie on the left. How the top bit ended up nearly black in places I will never know!
No matter, I liked how it turned out!
I added in some little details like the stars, and the red clay heart....
A Chit Chat sticker finishes off the panel!
Have a great weekend folks.....:)

*** GLITZ YOURSELF ***

Happy Friday!!
Another sunny weekend, and another birthday flash sale!

This weekend get 20% & 30% off

It's all black and white.

For today's post I'm in a black and white mood for sure and loving the simple graphic look of what started out as one of Rangers black tags. The gorgeous background detail was created using a stencil by Balzer Design and some white acrylic paint on my gelli plate. The white pattern could equally be created with the stencil and white paint or white ink over the black tag.

I stamped the flower and leaves from Claudine Hellmuth's stamp set on plain white card and cut them out, layering them up for some dimension. Apart from some small embellishments I didn't want to add too much as I loved the background so much I felt it a shame to cover it up.

Happy Friday.

Small bird

Hello everyone!

I hope you are enjoying the summer!
Today I have for you my experimental ATC. I made this project in two steps.
First I made a first layer of background using The Crafter's Workshop Balzer Designs stencil and gesso. Than I put some acrylic paint and sprayed Dylusions Spray Inks to a foil ( 12x12 papers package ) and printed colours to a piece of paper ( to my dry gesso). You can see how fab textures are!

After this stage I put on my ATC...
- Dr Ph Martin's Bombay India Ink
- Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze
- Claudine Hellmuth black gesso
- Posca Pen - white
- Ranger Liquid Pearls
- sticky-back canvas
- Stampotique stamps
- Ranger Archival Ink Jet Black

...and received this effect

Last Post.....

Morning Chaps....Paula here - and as the title says, this is indeed my last post as my DT term is now up.....it's amazing how quickly 6 months can go, ay.

Anyhow, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my lovely boss Vicki for choosing me in the first place and letting me be a part of a great band of talented ladies - I shall miss you all xx

Right...I can imagine you might be thinking what amazing piece of work am I going to end on.....Well, I'm not - I'm going to cheat (yes, I wussed out!) and take a look back at my top 5 pieces.

One of the great things of being part of any DT is that it can push you to try new things, and this DT did that for me......I've now started scrapbooking and here are a couple of my favourite pages

Here's a card - the background was brayered and the flower stamp is one I carved myself.....

A large tag......

A piece of 8"x8" chipboard painted, stencilled with a stamped image.

And lastly, I'd love to thank all the people who have visited and commented on my posts - every comment that has been given has been truly appreciated xx

Neon Brights!

Hello!
Have you seen the new Neon ink daubers from Hero Arts?
Very very cool.....and I've been playing! Something simple from me today, just showing off the vibrant colours!
I cut a large circle from card, then used the 'left overs' as a stencil. Very easy, I just swiped 5 of the dauber colours in stripes across the space!
I wouldn't say some of the colours really are 'Neon' in the 'very bright in your face sense' , the blue for example is a gorgeous shade, but not as dazzling as you would expect from 'neon'. However, the pink, orange and yellow are REALLY bright and zingy, so very on trend with the neon craze right now!
I then stamped the alphabet background (Darkroom Door) over the colour without removing the stencil.
I did a little wonky on purpose stitching around the circle....
then added another stitched line for my figure to stand on....
The figure (Stampotique) has been left black and white just to emphasise the sheer 'oomph' of the bright ink colours!
Remnant Rub ons for the phrase!
I would thoroughly recommend the daubers, great colours to play with!!
love Trish xxx

P.S.....Don't forget the Flash Sale going on in the shop....30% off Darkroom Door unmounted stamps until Monday! x
