Black Art Journalling !!!!

Good morning lovely people, Tracy here with today's post.....

Has anyone tried art journalling on black mixed media paper ???
I love black paper and card but have never even thought of using it for my mixed media or art journalling.

I was lucky enough to have a pile just sitting there waiting to experiment on and of course had to get out my dylusions paints and have a play.....

I layered up the dylusions paints and used some of Dy's stencils to add some interest to my page. The colours look so vibrant against a black background. I had  some left over painted deli paper from a previous project and used some small pieces of that to add a bit more colour to the background.

I sketched in my flowers directly over my background and used Dina's heavy body white paint to blank them out ready to add colour with the new Prima Pallette marker pens in deep pink and honey.

Final details were added with black and white doodle pens and some sticker  words I found in my stash.

I loved journalling on black card and have heard that Ranger have released a new black journal.....think it will be on my list of new things to buy !!!

Supplies Used:
Dylusions Paints
Dina Wakely White Paint
Black Posca Pen
White Posca Pen
Prima Palette Markers

Have a great day everyone

Bright and painty hugs

Autumn Fire Journal Page

Hello!

Hope you are all well this Sunday morning? It's moi (Georgie) ;) here with you today over from my blog, sharing another page from my bigger art journal.

I have called this page Autumn Fire, being so inspired by this time of year, all the colours are so rich and warm, signalling Summer is over and Winter will soon be here, hence the clock feel, the continuous ticking over of the seasons. With Autumn, everyone tends to think of the oranges, browns, reds and evergreens, but this page is dedicated to the plums and purples that appear battling to be seen against the other colours.

New Prima/Finnabair Mica Powders are now available from the shop, and of course couldn't wait to get my hands on them. So shimmery and pigmented! In this page I have used the newbies Tangerine and Deep Water.

The Prima Resin Flowers (the one above being from the Patty range), had me a little at odds to start with. I couldn't make up my mind, but... I took a gamble and boy, do I LOVE them! I sprayed this one with Prima Color Bloom in Pressed Petal.

For the background I used a Art Basics White Crackle and went over with Art Basics Black Gesso and Black Sand in the centre of the page where the flower would be, and then used Pressed Petal and Tangerine to coat over the page. Once, thoroughly dried I rubbed more black gesso in all over so the colour subtly shone through.

I've been holding on to my numeral for ages. Not wanting to open and just admire them in their packaging.

Lots of Art Ingredients Glass Glitter and Micro Beads along with another coating of Tangerine and Deep Water on the numerals to finish up!

Hugs
Georgie

Art is Freedom

Good morning to you all. Today I am sharing with you something from my art journal. This year I have been starting to develop my drawing/painting skills. I do this in the comfort of my own home largely because there are a lack of workshops to attend in the South West of england. So when I started this page I wanted to share a little of me with you!

This page was based on a picture that I had previously sketched into a sketch book, too scared to add any colour to it I decided to leave it as it was in my sketch book but recreate it in my art journal.

Now I have probably have created this page a little back to front but I decided to sketch into my journal first before covering with a layer of clear gesso.

Time to add some colour, eeek, scary times!

I painted the face mixing Dina Wakely paints for the skin tones.

When Painting on my background, again I used Dina Wakely paints through the Finnabair wild roses stencil. I added some stamping using the Finnabair dot grunge stamp and some butterflies, circles and sentiment from the Finnabair Dont forget to fly set.

I painted some card and stamped several of the tiny butterflies, fussy cut them out and applied them to my ladies head.

Compared to some I am still relatively new in my art journaling journey. I know that I still have a lot to learn but isn't it fun enjoying the ride?

Thank you for stopping by today. I am always overjoyed when you share your thoughts and comments.

Big hugs,

Clare x x x

Serenity Art Doll

Hello!
I'm sharing an Art Doll today... it feels like I haven't made one for ages!
Here she is...

I wanted a nice big chunky shape.... and didn't have one, so created my own! Really easy, I'll show you!

I used the middle part of this Tando Arch set as my front shape:

http://www.asprinkleofimagination.com/altered-art/substrates/3d-printers-trays/

I then drew around it 6 times on a bit of scrap cardboard....

I then cut all 6 shapes out. As I knew I wanted to glue on a head at some point, I also drew the shape on a bit of thinner chipboard, and added an extra tab at the top. This tabbed shape was then glued down right in the middle of the other shapes!

That's the tab sticking up! As you can see, it's now a really chunky shape that will stand up by itself!
I covered it with old book pages to neaten everything up...

For this particular project, I didn't want the book pages to show through, I just used them as the thin paper is perfect for glueing around curves!
I then painted the whole thing using Dina Wakely paints... fab bright colours. The chunky shape means you can decorate the edges as well!

I stamped some stars onto tissue, then glued them down with Mod Podge. Once dry, I added white dots with a paint pen...

The only wings I could find were corrugated metal ones, but this doesn't matter as the stamped tissue technique means the images can go easily over the corrugations...

I added beads for feet, and a typed word as my title...

Her head was created using two circles of chipboard. The larger one was decorated in the same way as the body, and the smaller one became her face. Sketched then coloured with watercolour pencils...

I added extra dots, I thought it needed framing somehow, I'm not used to people with no hair in my creations I think!
I like how she turned out, and I'll definitely be using cardboard to create more chunky shapes! Much easier to get hold of and less expensive than wooden ones!

 Have a good weekend!
Love Trish xxx

Distress Paints and Stencils

Hello!  Shirley back again, and for today's card I've been playing with the resist properties of Distress Paints when used with Distress Inks.

On a panel of white mixed media paper I used Picked Raspberry Distress Paint through two Tim Holtz layering stencils (Stripes and Schoolhouse).  Once that was dry, I swiped my Fossilised Amber Distress Ink pad across the panel, then rubbed it all in with a tissue. Rather than take on the ink colour, the painted areas resist the ink, leaving the original paint colour showing through.

Next I took another piece of card and this time dabbed on Chipped Sapphire, Picked Raspberry and Wild Honey Distress Paints, then spritzed heavily with water to let the colours bleed into each other.  You need some absorbent paper towel or kitchen roll underneath this!

Once that was dry (with a little help from a heat gun to finish it off), I stamped all over with some butterflies from Finnabair's Don't Forget To Fly set, then cut them out and selected the one that I wanted to use.

One finished card, and lots of spare butterflies for future projects!

See you soon!

Mini Christmas Cards

Hiya... Georgie here!! :)

When I saw these super cute Hero Arts Scandinavian Holiday stamps, I knew I had to have them in my life!! I just adore this style!!!!

Now usually I'm a background stamper, love getting messy and not having to worry about perfection. I have created a set of mini notelets, which can be used as Christmas cards, or thank yous for after.

I wanted to do so much more with these and ventured into a watercolour background, but the images just didn't pop like I wanted them to. So after some playing around I went CAS, which for me is a real achievement!

Archival Ink in Jet Black, created the contrast I wanted for these.

I can't help but think of 'Frozen' when I see these images :)

Soooo in love with this little Christmas Tree!

Clean, simple and sweet! If you need some cards made up in a hurry for Christmas, I completely recommend these, they are just such a joy to work with :)

Hugs

Be Brave, Be Strong, Be True

Good morning folks. This is very exciting, it's my first ever blog post for ' A Sprinkle of Imagination ' and I feel so very proud and honoured to be here.

There are so many changes taking place in my household at the moment. My son has just started an apprenticeship and my daughter has started at secondary school. With my daughter in mind I created a page in my journal.

I know that I am going to be incredibly biast but my daughter really is inspirational. She gives everything 100% and wants to do it well. Sophie loves to sing, write, bake and even ventures down into my craft room where we sometimes sit and participate in a crafty session or two. Unfortunately she seems to have a very low self esteem where she underestimates herself because of how her peers may have judged her. So this is a little message that I want to pass onto my girl to help her with new chapter.

For this project I used:
Cargo
Crocodile
Burlap
Splotches

I also used some of my own textures like bubble wrap and bottle tops on my Gelli plate.
I started off on my page with Tangerine paint on my gelli plate, putting down various prints using things like a metal grid from a disposable barbeque (bizarre) and bubble wrap. To dull down the orange paint a little I repeated this with white paint.
With the Gelli plate I applied two colours midnight and turquoise and blended with a brayer. I used some bottle tops on the gelli plate to make circular patterns before printing.
Using some midnight paint I went through the cargo and crocodile stencils and then with the burlap stencil I applied some white paint.
Dina's silhoutted women were all stamped onto the page but on a separate piece of card I painted some magenta and added some orange with the splotches stencil. When this was dry I stamped on another of the women and cut out and stuck onto the page.

I added some doodling over the two background characters and some words of wisdom around the edge of the page that says 'Don't be afraid to stand out from the crowd. Be brave, Be strong, Be true'

So that's my first blog for A Sprinkle of imagination, phew! I shall be back again soon with some more craftiness. Thank you for taking the time to stop by, I love to hear your thoughts and comments.

Happy journaling,

Two Cards For The Price Of One

Hello!  Shirley here with my debut Design Team post.  Nervous?  Me too!!

For my first project, I wanted to use the Dina Wakley Collaged Hearts stamp set, and ended up making two similar cards.  Here's the first one:

I didn't like how this one started off - I'd stamped onto mixed media paper and of course the texture of the paper means that the stamped image isn't completely solid.  So I re-inked and stamped the same image onto ordinary card stock.  Not one to throw anything away if I can help it, I decided to press on with both images and see how they compared.

You can see that the mixed media paper is on the left, and the ordinary card stock on the right.  I sponged with Distress Ink minis and the mini ink blending tool (I love how you can store the sponges in the space under the ink bases!).

Using the TCW Harlequin stencil I added Distress Paints (Twisted Citron and Picked Raspberry), then stamped some circles from the Prima Finnabair 'Don't Forget To Fly' set.  I hand-wrote the sentiment in the corner, then doodled a frame around the panel before mounting it onto white card.

I used the TCW Harlequin stencil again on the second card, this time spritzing it with water and laying it on the panel to 'bleach' some of the colour away.  I added some Ruby Red Liquid Pearls.  Liquid Pearls are notorious for splatting just as you've started with them, and even though I 'burped' my bottle, I still got a blotch, so I decided to make the rest of the line grungy in keeping with the style of the heart image, thereby turning it into a Design Feature (ahem).

Here's a closer look.

So the moral of the story is don't throw away your 'mistakes' too soon.  After you've added layers, paints, embellishments etc.,  a defect may not look like a defect at all, but a Design Feature!
