Recycling Backgrounds

I've been recycling a piece of stamped card where the impression hadn't been as clear as I would have liked, and I didn't want to throw it away, so I painted over it to push the text to the background.

The stamp in question was the large text stamp from Tim Holtz Papillon.  I sponged Dylusions Paints (Cherry Pie and Fresh Lime) then using London Blue I scraped some paint lines.  A splattering of After Midnight and White Linen completed the background.

Once that was dry I stamped Donna Downey Poppies, masking the first one while I stamped the second one, then drew in the stems with a black Posca pen, and sponged some white around the outlines to help define the image.

Drawing stems onto flower head images is a great way to stretch your stamps.

Maude Doodle Dolly

Hi peeps!  Have you seen the gorgeous new stamps by Karen Hayselden for Stampotique?  I fell in love with Maude Doodle Dolly.

I stamped her on a spare piece of white card, then watercoloured her with Distress Inks and cut her out.

On my tall card base I swooshed some black gesso across to ground where she would be standing, splattered some Distress Inks, then added some ring marks using a bottle top and Dylusions Cherry Pie and After Midnight paint, placing one of the ring marks as a halo.

I added a diecut and sentiment from Hero Arts Happy Stamp and Cut set to finish the card.

Fabulous!

Hello my lovelies, I'm here today from A Sprinkle of Imagination to share with you some feathered friends from Stampoutique.

I started off by blending some fresh lime  and white Dylusions paint onto a tag.  I added some background detail to my tag using contasting paint and ink.

I stamped Kira Nichols Stampotique - Birdy Up onto some water colour card and using Inktense pencils I gave the birds a burst of colour. There are four birds on this stamp but I only used three.  I added some little dots using a White Posca pen.  I fussy cut out my three little birds and set them aside.  The sentiment was from the Dylusions set Say it how it is, stamped on white card and cut into individual words.

I assembled my birds along with the sentiment onto the tag and embellished with some sequins.  I added some glossy accents to the birds wings and eyes and the pink bird had a sprinkle of glitter to make a little more fabulous.

Rainbow Heart

Morning all,  Clare here with my blog post for A sprinkle of imagination.  Recently I was having a little play in my journal and my Daughter fell in love with my page and asked if I could make her a canvas for her bedroom so I set about making a girly creation.

First of all I layered up all of my bright Dylusion paints along with Dylusion stencils. 

Onto this I stamped on some Finnibair butterflies and hearts , from Dont forget to fly & trust the magic stamp sets.  I drew a freehand heart onto the canvas.  Carefully, I painted around my images using Dylusion paints with Turquoise and white.

Once this layer had dried I stamped some Dylusion stamps with white Dylusion paint randomly around the canvas.  Using a black Inktence pencil I edged my images.  For the doodles I pulled out my trusty Posca pens.  Finally through a stencil I  swept through some Finnabair art basics   3D gel matt medium and sprinkled a dusting of glitter.

My daughter is overjoyed with her canvas which is now hanging up in her room.  I hope you like it too?

Horlogerie

Hey peeps, happy Saturday :)  Today I've been playing with one of my favourite Tim Holtz stamp sets, Papillon.  I just love the large background script stamp.

I started off by stamping the image with Versafine Onyx Black on card, then sponging Distress Inks (Spun Sugar, Shaded Lilac, Dusty Concord, Peeled Paint).  A quick blast with the heat gun to seal the inks, then I added some highlighting with a white Post paint pen.  I trimmed the panel using the largest frame from the Lawn Fawn: Lawn Cuts Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables which give a lovely stitched edge.

I wrapped some grape Prima Jute around the panel then mounted it onto my base card, and it was finished.  Or was it?  Maybe it was lacking a little something.  The moths and butterflies in the Papillon set came to the rescue!

Hi there fellow bloggers.  Recently whilst on holidays I decided to treat myself to a few new stamps (just a few, and a few more) ;-). I decided that I would get out my trusty Distress Inks and have a play.

I went a bit wild with my Distress colour choices this time using peacock feathers, twisted citron and seedless preserves through my Tim Holtz layering stencils. I stamped Stampotiques 'Midge' onto my card and then onto a post it to mask her.  Using stamps from the Finnabair Lace & Doily set I stamped the flowery  and lacy borders along with some small doily circles.  The mischevious sentiment is from the Dylusions set Say it how it is

Midge's dress was coloured using seedless preserves with some white dots added to her frock. I know how she feels, when I'm unsupervised I always end up in some sort of mischeif, it usually involves a checkout full of stamps and crafty goodies.

Index Card Art !!!!

Good morning gorgeous ones !!!

It's no secret that I loooove index card art, it was, after all how I got started in mixed media and it still holds very dear to my heart. 

I was lucky enough to teach a class last week on this very subject and think my addiction for these little beauties definately rubbed off on one or two or six of the lovely ladies that attended.....

We used lots of the fabulous Dina Wakley acrylic paints, they are definately one of my favourite go to paints, the colours are fabulous and the consistency thick and luxurious.....

I just love playing on these small cards, they are inexpensive and I can experiment on them with new colours and supplies without having to worry about the end result...

One of the other paints I like to use are the Ranger Distress paints. Although thinner in consistency the blend really well and the colours coordinate perfectly with Dina's heavy body acrylics so it's a real win win for me.....

It's so easy to create gorgeous projects with a pile of index cards, a mix of beautiful paints, and a black and white gel pen.....so what are you waiting for ????

Colourful Masterboard

Morning, folks!  I decided to make a masterboard that I could cut up for cards.  I started by sponging my Dylusions paints onto a sheet of A4 card using Mini Blending foam.  Next came some stencilling using Tim Holtz Stencils, then then stamping with Dina Wakley Textures using Ranger Archival Ink.

Then I started chopping the masterboard up for card fronts and toppers:

148mm sq card (Dymo tape sentiment)

This could either be a bookmark or a gift tag.

After I'd finished sponging each colour, I got rid of the excess paint by sponging circles (as recommended by Dyan Reaveley in one of her videos) onto another sheet of card:

Out came the circle stamps from the Finnabair Don't Forget To Fly set.  I allocated one stamp per colour, and stamped over all the circles, filling in the gaps with some of the smaller stamps:

And now I've got another masterboard!

Distressed Watercolouring !!!

Good morning everyone and a very happy Sunday to you all....

Today I want to share my renewed love for my Ranger distress pads !!!

When I started art journalling it was one of the first this I bought but apart from stamping or inking edges I never really did anything else with them and they were soon relegated to the bottom of the art draw. 

Well I have to say I am now so back in love with the possibilities they hold I just had to show you what I've been doing with them.....

I've discovered that they are super amazing to use as watercolours !!!..... Yes you heard me.....by rubbing the pad onto an acrylic block or a non stick craft sheet you can add water to the pigments and paint like watercolours.....I just love it....I know I'm not going to be the first to discover this but I just love the effect it gives!!!

By adding more or less water to the pigment you can get different shades of colour. 

I can honestly say I have a new found  love for these pads. Never again will I look at them just for stamping and with the amazing array of colours both vibrant and subdued there is something for everyone. 

The mini pads are fabulous for travelling and I have made sure they are in my travel art kit. A definately must have !!!!

Scribbly Bird

Hi, it's so lovely being on holiday at the moment, it gives me more time to be able to play and explore so without further ado let me show you what has been going on in my journal.

 

For this journal entry I used Dina Wakely heavy body acrylics,  Dina Wakely stencils; Spinners Tim Holtz layering stencil; splotches. Dina Wakely Scibbly Birds.   Alcohol inks and Posca paint pens.  Pop over to the online shop for a gander at the marvellous selection of mixed media materials. 

I built up the layers with Dina's creamy paints and stencils then painted on the flowers and bubbles. The scrbbly bird was stamped onto a sheet of alcohol inks which had been previously prepared, I cut it out and stuck it onto my colourful page.

Finally I added some doodling with my paint pens.  I always seem to get carried away at this stage and wonder how much is too much doodling?

New Beginnings !!

Good morning

Not sure what it's like in your part of the world but we are having a lovely sunny weekend here in London !!!

Playing in my large Dylusions journal I decided to just let go and see what happened (I do that sometimes when I'm not sure what direction to go in) I just picked my favourite paint colours and started adding them to my pages. 

I started adding in random shapes outlining in black gel pen to give definition. Stamping and stencilling is always a good idea and gives added depth to a page. When I'm not sure what I'm creating I always reach for my favourite Dylusions and Dina Wakley stencils and stamps ( as I already love them they will always look good on a page)

Paint splatters and white penwork always make a page pop and adding outlines to shapes with black pen always defines the shapes and gives detail....

So when your not sure what you want to create, just let go, pick a few of your favourite paint colours, gather up some stencils and stamps and a few pens and play.....it's so freeing and you never know what you will end up with !!!!

Spread your wings!

Hi there, I'm going back to my roots today.  When I first started crafting I used to be mainly a papercrafter.  I soon discovered a passion for all things inky which then led me to mixed media and all thinks painty!  Here is my make for today using Distress inks.

I inked through a circle template using Picked Raspberry, spiced marmalade and wild honey distress inks.  Using the same colours I blended through Tim Holtz layering stencils; zig zag and bubble.  Over the top I stamped the buble wrap stamp from Nathalie Kalbach set of grunge stamps and finally
stamped the vinatge lady from Finnabair don't forget to fly stamp set.

Not visible on the photo but I highlighted certain areas using a clear Wink of stella pen which gives a lovely subtle shimmer.

Ranger Ink Love !!!

Morning everyone, Tracy here today with a post about one of my most favourite brands..... Ranger Ink !!!

The brand that brought you Dylusions, Dina Wakley's Media Line and of course who can forget Tim Holtz !!!!

The page above in my journal was done with a mix of paints, I just love all the fabulous bright colours of both Dina's and Dyan's amazing paints which compliment each other so well 

and of course the fully co-ordinated line of Distress products from Tim....In the picture above I've used distress markers which are one of my new favourites and I love to use them like watercolours by scribbling them onto an acrylic block and then picking up with a wet paint brush and applying to my image. It allows you to blend and build up the colours. 

This technique works equally well with the distress pads as shown on the above journal page ( I used picked raspberry, mustard seed, crushed olive & spiced marmalade) !!!

And let's not forget all those fabulous stencils....a never ending array of amazing designs with the perfect design for every project. My personal favourites are the Dylusions bubble stencil and         Dina Wakley Gears stencil both shown in the above project. They really are amazing !!!!

And of course although not technically Ranger, Tim Holtz's association with Stampers Anonymous compliments the entire range perfectly. My favourites at the moment are the Crazy Bird and Crazy Cat stamps. Perfect for colouring and perfect to add to any card or journal page but there are so many more available to suit every taste, go check them out !!!
