Cherish Hope Dream

Paula here again, with another A4 layout - I'm having one of those moments while writing this wondering if this is good enough for a DT piece......as you might have read before, I'm new to scrapbooking and journaling, so to be honest I don't know what I'm doing but I'm just following my heart and going with the flow.......

I shall try and sum up how this piece came about, without waffling on too much - I started off with an off cut of stencilled paper, the stencil used was Donna Downey 6x6 Floral, I then used a marker pen to highlight the floral image and then filled in with a blue marker pen - I then mat and layered this onto red and grey card, at this point this was meant to make a card but somehow I found the image of Nick and things developed from there.
The chevron design is again a Donna Downey 6x6 stencil, I've used red distress ink through it (with the chevrons at the top and bottom of page I've added colour with the blue marker pen that I used on the panel) I've also used the Dylusions 5x8 Number Jumble stencil with black distress ink. The wording is created using Jenni Bowlin Black Skinny Alphas.

It's the first time I've actually done any writing/journaling on a page, it might seem over sentimental to some but it just flowed out as is, I didn't think it through at all but I realise this is all about the fact that Nick has been on the transplant list for 13 months now, and his health is slipping little by little and now again the realisation of that he could actually die hits home.

Fly

Hello again!
So, second project in a row from me with no paint on it.....what's going on?!!
he he he.....its nice to force yourself into different styles sometimes!!
Here is my mini layout (or panel? is it a layout if it has no photo???!) for today... 'Fly'..
Lots of different textures and substrates used here, starting off with a square of Kraft card. I did very little to this base, just a squirt or two of Peacock Feathers Distress reinker mixed with water, and some splats of both that colour ink and Vintage Photo. I edged the square with the Vintage photo too. Teeny bit of stamping, again using those two colours...
The flower top left is cut from sticky backed canvas, dyed using Peacock Feathers Distress stain, and edged with Vintage Photo...
The other large flower is created from Kraft Glassine paper. Crumpled up, inked (Peacock Feathers again!) sprayed with water and then sprinkled with Perfect Pearls. The water mixing with the Perfect Pearls forms a thin, paint like shimmery wash. Cut out, and assembled into the flower shape...
I also used Glassine for the two flourishes on my panel.
The focal image is a card from the gorgeous Jenni Bowlin Vintage deck (this image is in the silhouette 2 pack). I just inked lightly round the edges, and placed it centrally in my design...
The four blue flowers are very easy to make rolled 'roses'. Simply cut a spiral shape from card, then roll up to form the rose shape. Glue the end underneath the flower to secure, and you're done! I've coated the flowers with Glue N Seal, the covered them with Rock Candy Dry Stickles.
I glued all the elements down, then added in the final touches. Two small junkyard findings light bulbs, to be precise! I removed the words that were originally on the bulbs simply by scraping them off!
Now, I'm not normally a gem kind of girl, but these particular colours are just perfect for this project! These are Prima Say It In Crystal Rounds.
The last thing I did was to give the whole thing a spritz and splatter with gold drawing ink. I covered up the main image so that would stay pristine, but gave the rest a thorough splatting! This also helps 'tone down' the gems a little, a bit of distressing does no harm!
So there you have it!
See you soon,
Love Trish x

Be Mine?

Belated, Happy Valentines Day.. I hope everyone had a lovely day!

Today, I've an altered wooden block to share with you, using some of the gorgeous Glitz Design Yours Truly Collection seriously, these papers should be for stroking only!!

I am known as a bit of a hoarder/recycler and just couldn't pass up on this off cut of wood.. I cleaned it up and left to dry out naturally then sanded the edges..

I painted around the edges of the wooden block with Claudine Hellmuth Studio Paint in Charcoal Black.

While it was drying I set about looking for some corrugated card from a left over box from Christmas.. Bingo! I found just was I was looking for and it was white! I stamped and grunged it up a little using Ranger's Pearl Metallic Paint Dabbers and glued down onto it one of the small typo bulbs from the Prima Junkyard Findings set.. I just LOVE these!

While the paint and glue was drying on everything! I tore and grunged up some of the pretty Glitz Design Yours Truly Polka paper.

Once the bulb had stuck to the cardboard... I added some wire from my squirrelling bag! and mounted the heart onto the paper using 3D foam pads..

Next I took another sheet of paper from the Yours Truly Collection by Glitz Design.. measured the block and cut the paper to size using a sheet of Truly Ephemera..

The paper was really too nice to cover up really!

Here is my finished block..

I used a sweet little stamp called Be Mine from Stampotique Originals, and stamped onto tissue paper using Jumbo Jet Black Archival Ink Pad.

Thank you for calling. Have a great day. Gez

Embossing part 2 - with Valentine inspiration.

It's Valentines day and for this, part two of my embossing workshop, I'm going to take a slightly different course and do a little dry embossing instead using Claudine Hellmuth sticky backed canvas.

The canvas sheets hold their shape perfectly when put through an embossing machine and it's possible to achieve many different looks using paint and ink.

After cutting my heart I painted it a soft pink with acrylic paint before putting it through my embossing folder.

I used my finger to rub over a little white, leaving the depressions in the darker pink colour.

When that was dry I rubbed over again (still with a finger) with some Inka Gold cream but gold acrylic works just as well.

In these three other examples I've managed to create different finishes using different products. In this first one the base is pink acrylic and the top layer is the same pink mixed with white for a much softer look.

In this one the base is black acrylic and the top layer is silver which gives it a brushed metal look. Interesting considering it's fabric.  I'll be back to that one.

This one is Distress ink with more Inka gold rubbed over the top.

The background of my canvas is layers of music papers, white acrylic, Distress Crackle paint - Rock candy, Distress ink - Worn lipstick and some stamping. As well as the heart I've added three little Crystals from Prima and hung three more Genie stones also from Prima.

You remember that black and silver ATC size piece?  Well here it is sewn and added to a card.

Happy Valentines Day.

I'll be back next week with part three and back to using embossing powder.

Winter card

Hello!

Spring is so close but still feel some winter wind! This time of the year my favourite colours are: brown, yellow and white. When first daffodils bloom, fields are still very muddy and sometimes few snowflakes fall.

Today I would like to show you very simple card. I used lovely Glitz Yours Truly and Graphic 45 Bird Song Collection papers. They are really great, you can use them for so many different styles. In the centre I added a piece of Jenni Bowlin tag. On sticky canvas I stamped Stampotique stamp and than glued Prima Tile – Almanac. Few more drops using Ranger Liquid Pearls and card is done...

Dotty canvas!

Or rather..."look no paint"!!!
Just goes to show, I CAN create something without using shed loads of paint!
I wanted to use the sticky backed canvas that I received in my design kit for this month, love this stuff lots! Instead of just using it to create on, I thought I would make something with the canvas to use as an embellishment. Which then turned into focal points rather than embellishments, but never mind!!!
I saw a tutorial in Scrap365 magazine by Katy Fox, in which she turned regular canvas sheets into resist canvas by clear embossing a design onto the canvas. This is exactly what I have done with the canvas circles..... embossed some dots using clear powder, then coloured them using Distress Stains. As you can see, the dots show up wonderfully where they have resisted the ink!
I used Seedless Preserves (the more pinky purple colour), Dusty Concord and Peeled Paint stains to colour the canvas. I also used these three colours to create the background. A simple "stain on craft sheet, spritz with water, wipe card through the mess, dry, repeat until done" job!!!
I did a little black ink stamping around the edges with some dots and a flourish just to give a little detail.
The circles were mounted on top of each other (easy peasy, they're sticky backed!), after I had doodled around them, and I added a punched shape (a snowflake 'officially' , but I think it doubles up as stamens beautifully!).
Chit Chat word stickers to finish....
I hope you like it, I'm really enamoured by this colour combo now, and can see me using it lots more!

12x12 Experiment

Hello again, Paula here - this is a very experimental 12x12 LO - obviously, I'm still a novice but as you might be able to see, I'm having fun!
I've used  Dr Ph Martin's Bombay Indian Ink in orange to draw my base design, I've then used a Dylusion stencil with a black Dylusions ink spray. The lettering and numbers are Jenni Bowlin Skinny Alphas.

Would love to hear feedback on this piece.....any constructive criticism would be welcomed.

Electric love...

Hello everyone!

Do you remember my last post? I showed you a very simple technique using all-purpose glue and paint. Today I would like to show you what effect you can achieve using the same all-purpose glue and paint but also adding some water.

Here I used paint with a few drops of water.

Here I sprayed water after applying glue and paint.

And here is my project using this technique.

For layers I used some pieces of newspaper, white tissue paper, Glitz Yours Truly paper and paper pieces with glue+ paint technique. Also I added letters from a great Jenni Bowlin Grey Skinny Alphas and a tag also from Jenni Bowlin. Then I used some fantastic Stampotique stamps – I love them! I always use Archival Ink Jet Black for my mixed media projects. I let everything dry and applied Ranger Liquid Pearls – White Opal.
The finishing touches...I glued a fabulous Prima Bulb embellishment and Prima Say It In Crystals.

Embossing workshop part 1 - Faux Batik.

Over the following four weeks I'll be bringing you four mini workshops based around embossing and hopefully giving you one or two new ways to look at the way you emboss.

In this, Part 1 I'm going to show you my all time favourite, faux batik technique.

You might be familiar with emboss resist technique but this takes it one step further.

For my tutorial I've used clear UTEE by Ranger and Creative layer stamps by Claudine Hellmuth
I stamped and embossed my first layer onto my journal page with Versamark ink and UTEE.

I sprayed on some Dylusions spray (Fresh lime) concentrating mainly where I'd stamped.

Once this layer was dry (a bit of patience is required here) I stamped for a second time in the spaces, heat embossed again being careful not to re-melt what I'd already done. I sprayed over a second colour of ink (Vibrant turquoise).

I could have left it there and indeed if you simply use a wet wipe to wipe the ink off the embossing it makes a pretty cool background as it is but I still wanted to take it further so I embossed a third time over the page and sprayed a third colour of ink (Bubblegum pink) over it.

Once it was all dry, I was ready for the next stage.  Using a piece of brown parcel paper (newspaper or kitchen towel work too) I ironed over the whole page melting the embossing and lifting it off the page.  It took three pieces of paper until there was no more residue left under the iron.

This is how it looked when I'd finished.

To finish my page off I took some off cuts from a sheet of Glitz design paper and stamped on the flowers and circles from the Claudine Hellmuth stamps. I cut out the little elephant from the Glitz paper and added a hand cut border along the bottom and a title using alpha stickers by Jenni Bowlin

Next week Embossing workshop part 2.

Have fun,

Jaine x

Simple Card

Just a quick and very simple card for today - Basically, I've used grey card to make a DL sized card blank, I then cut a panel slightly smaller than the front of the card out of 12x12 "Truly Polka" paper by Glitz Design.
The wording is on acetate, and comes from the Yours Truly collection by Glitz Design, I glued along the top and bottom edges to adhere it, then covered the edges with some Yellow Polka Washi tape. To finish the card, I've added a Donna Downey 'poppy' (which are just gorgeous) and 3 Prima Say it in Crystals .....simples!

Bella, bella tag!

Good morning, from a wet and very windy corner of the North West of England.. I have a tag to share with you today, focusing on the totally gorgeous {Prima Genie Stones}.

These stones make the perfect embellishment!

 Here is my completed tag..

For my tag I used the larger of the 2 manilla tags in the {No. 12 Giant Tags} set.. and {Dylusions} spray inks by Dyan Reaveley.

Once dried I painted silver acrylic circles using a {Ranger Paint Dabber} and the sequin mask from {Tando Creative}.

I embellished my tag using stamps from {Stampotique Originals}, a Tando snowflake and some of my favourite {Glitz Design} washi tape.. and some of the gorgeous {Prima Genie Stones} which I thought looked just like teardrops!

Thank you for calling today, happy creating, Gez
