Here's the science bit!

Hi blog friends it's Clare here today and today I'm revisiting a technique that I used a long time ago.  It's more of an experiment with paint if I'm honest, it really is quite scientific!

Using Dylusions lemon zest, I painted a layer onto the canvas and dried.  After this I painted a watery layer of white linen, with a pipette I added some drops of surgical spirit. Here's the science bit!  The surgical spirit pushes the paint away leaving these beautiful natural circles that you can see below.

It is very important to do this in a well ventilated room!  Once the white layer was dry I added a watery layer of vibrant turquoise and added more surgical spirit, dry again, and another layer of watery white.

Once my white layer had dried I added the final layer of bubblegum pink and repeated with the surgical spirit.  I stamped Stampotique, Kira Nichols, Kitty Squad stamp and coloured with  water soluble crayons.  I cut them out and placed them popping out of the circles.  I stamped one of the Dylusions sayings and added to the mini canvas.  Finally a little doodling with my posca pens.

I decided that I would add a magnetic sheet to this canvas and pop it on the fridge.

Thank you for stopping by today, have lots of crafty fun!

Hugs,

It's A Man Thing

Happy Sunday, peeps!  Shirley here with a trendy masculine card for you.

I started off by stamping the guy image from Dylusions Mini Couture using Tea Dye Distress ink, watercoloured the image using the same colour, then masked that with some scrap paper.  I inked up the Mix Tape 6x6 stencil by Ronda Palazzari with Distress Inks, turned it over and placed it over the masked stamped image at a jaunty angle, pressing it down with kitchen roll so that the colours mixed, and the excess was mopped up.

The scrap paper I used for masking was red and white checked, but because it got soaked by the Distress Inks, some of it ripped and stayed behind as I was removing it.  Doesn't it look cool, though?  Might have to try drawing checks on the jacket next time!

I used a stamp from Dina Wakley Textures to add some detail around the edges, then trimmed the panel, matted it onto black card, then adhered it to my card base.  On a spare piece of black card, I wrote the HB2U with a white Posca pen, and stuck a strip of the trimmed card across the bottom using 1/8 inch Wonder Tape.  It just adds that little bit of interest.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

I could while away the hours

Hi I'm here today to share an entry into my large art journal.  It must be the time of year as I am feeling a tad florally at the moment and some blooms have just landed onto my art journal pages!

For this project I used Dylusion paints.  I mixed crushed grape and fresh lime with some white to
make my colours pastel.  I recently have enjoyed designing and carving some of my own stamps onto
speedball easy cut stamp carving blocks.  I used one of these to stamp onto my background with the pastel colours.  I also stamped  one of Nathalie Kalbach grunge stamps in black for a little more interest.

I pencilled on my flowers along with some free falling leaves, leaving these void I began to blend crushed grape and white linen around the pastel openings.

I added some doodling with my Black and white Posca pens.  Onto some white card i stamped a Julie Nutting mixed media doll, Megan and coloured her in.    On a clean up page,  where I had been cleaning off  my brushes I stamped  my background  stamp and then stamped Megans dress over the top and cut out to dress my doll.

I finally stamped my saying using Dylusions alphabet stamp

Thats all from me today, thanks for stopping by,
Hugs,

Making Tracks

Hi folks, Shirley here with a card for those oh-so-hard-to-make-for menfolk in our lives.  The Tim Holtz Treads Layering Stencil was the perfect starting point.  I used Finnabair's Graphite Texture Paste through the stencil onto some watercolour card.  Don't be put off by the 'undercoat' colour of the paste - when it dries it's a beautiful dark colour with a fabulous slightly sparkly texture.

A close-up of the texture - with sticky pads in the grooves, ready for the stamped image.
Once the paste was dry I wet the paper and dropped in some Distress Inks with a paintbrush - Faded Jeans, Seedless Preserves, Dusty Concord, Forest Moss, Peeled Paint - and let them move around and flow into each other.

I diecut the 'happy' (Hero Arts, Happy Stamp & Cut) from black card, smeared it with clear pigment watermark ink then brushed it with Finnabair's Mica Powder - Frosted Lake.

On a separate piece of card, I stamped the male image from Dylusions Couture Collection - Mini Couture, coloured it with the Distress Inks and fussy cut it.  I added the 'birthday' then matted the whole piece to a white base card.

I hope that's given you an idea for cards for your men.  Thanks for stopping by!

A little triptych

Back in the day shall we say, I created a few triptyches (that's so difficult to say) and I'd forgotten how much fun they were.

I decided to recreate that amusement with a quirky and colourful triptych for this months challenge.

I started out with three chipboard pieces from Tando which were in my stash. I didn't have three the same size but in the end I don't think that really matters. I painted the background with Dylusions paints in Turquoise and cut grass, using a foam roller to blend the paint. I used the same paint colours to stencil through Tim Holtz layering stencils which just helped to add some depth to the background.

The adorable fishes are Dylusions stamps and I used Derwent Inktense pencils to colour them in.

To really make their little eyes pop, I added a dot of enamel accents in the centre. I loved the look of the dots so much I used the white one to add the bubbles here and there.

If you fancy joining in the challenge this month just go to the challenge page here and link up to the linky gallery.

Pimp my shoes!

This project is a little bit different from the sort of thing I usually bring you but I thought I'd show you a way to take your art off the page and wear it too.

This is the pair of shoes which started it all off, a simple pair of pumps which I painted on a while ago for a project in Craft Stamper. I wore them out recently and had lots of comments, one of them from a little girl who absolutely loved them and really wanted a pair of her own. As it was her birthday I thought it would be the perfect present.

I used a product called Inkssentials Fabric Medium by Ranger.  It turns all your acrylic paints, alcohol inks and ranger inks into fabric paints. Even glitter.

I started off by protecting the rubber sole with masking tape.

I stamped the birds and flowers from Rangers Dylusions How Does Your Garden Grow with a Stazon ink. I found it easier to stamp on the shoe with a piece of foam and my hand in the shoe so I could feel the stamp through the fabric. If you miss a few bits or some of the stamping doesn't come out perfectly just use a black permanent marker to go back around the image.

Mix up the medium one to one. You don't need much, a little goes a long way.

Paint in the design. Again don't worry about going over the stamping, you can go back over it later.

Here are the finished shoes. I mixed up some of the medium with some glitter added to add glittery bits on the shoes. The medium can also be used over the top as a sealer if you want as it's totally clear.

I made a second pair and love how they came out.

Why not consider wearing your art, it makes a great statement.

Add some colour

There are times when we all feel down and need a pick-me-up and this page is dedicated to all the friends who do just that and paint the colour back in to an otherwise dark and murky world.

My background is simply sprayed with Dylusions ink sprays turquoise and fresh lime through two different Dylusions stencils, Letter Jumble and checkered dots. I added lots of circles over the top using lots of different mediums, some splats, die cuts and gesso. I stamped and coloured Doolally Dorris to layer her onto the background and I was finished.

See you soon
