Two Scribbly Birds

Hi there peeps!  Are you enjoying this little burst of summer?  I've managed to drag myself away from the garden for a few hours of crafty time.

I've been playing with the Scribbly Birds set from Dina Wakley.  I made a couple of background panels using Dylusions paints, then cut two panels using the Lawn Fawn Lawn Cuts Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables Dies.
I smudged the paints onto the panel, splattered some white, then once that had dried I brayered some white over the top to knock everything back.
I stamped the bird in Versafine Onyx Black, then watercoloured using Distress Inks and fussy cut the image.
Cut-down strips of Tim Holtz Idea-ology Tissue Tape were added to the panels for visual interest.
My second card was made using the same process.  I stamped some triangles from Hero Arts Stamps & Cut - Happy onto the panel.
This time I tore the tissue tape into strips to layer onto the panel.
Thanks for popping in, and enjoy this good weather while it lasts!

De Claris Sancte

Hi there

Georgie here today and if you have come over from my blog you may have read a little story to go along with this creation. If not, and you fancy a mind wander, you can check it out here.

This whole book was made completely from scratch, I will list all products at the bottom of the post. However, a spoonful of Tim Holtz ideology products, a pinch of Prima Relics, a dash of Finnabair mediums and a whisper of paint you get this!

Papers are made from regular computer paper with some tea stain, then a touch of Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

Some torn Tim Holtz French Industrial papers. I found matte medium was the best for gluing and and layering with. Most importantly though, use it to seal the top layer.

I love Sandra's gorgeous relics from Prima. They add such a magical dimension!

Products Used:
Tim Holtz Idea-ology Bird Cage
Tim Holtz Idea-ology
Tim Holtz French Industrial
Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink
Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Paint
Finnabair Matte Medium
Glossy Accents
Finnabar Black Gesso

Pretty in pink

After creating a house in a jar I've now created a tree on a plate. A pink tree too, well why not?

Underneath that pink frosting is a plain bottle brush from a Tim Holtz Idea-ology Woodlands pack. I sprayed it with Dylusions Bubblegum pink spray and Mr Hueys Color Shine for some sparkle. To give it some extra sparkle I touched the fronds with some glue and rolled the brush in Ranger Distress Glitter in Picked Raspberry. It's so sad I couldn't get a good picture with the glitter because it really does shine beautifully.

To trim my tree I took a cheap decoration and cut off the little beads, using gel medium to stick them to the tree.

I used Idea-ology Tinsel Twine to wrap around the tree and base and finished off with a chipboard star from Tando.

I stood my little tree on an old wooden cotton reel and finished with a pink bow.

We've all fallen in love with these trees here and I'm sure you will too.

See you soon

Cool Blues

Hello!
More experimenting with colour schemes again from me today! Or rather, a *lack* of a colour scheme..... blue and white only this time.....
I covered my chipboard sheet with tissue wrap, then gave it a wash of white paint. A wash of blue paint over the top gave me a delicate base to work on...

I then started to build up some detail in the right hand corner. Lots of layers, including stencilling with white paint, and stamping with blue ink. I used the dots from a Bo Bunny set, and a Jenni Bowlin alphabet...
I also sponged embossing ink through a stencil, then embossed it with white embossing powder.
I stamped a Stampotique heart onto white card, then embossed it using a polka dot embossing folder. I cut it out, then added some butterfly wings....
The heart stands proud from the background. I glued a bead to the heart then glued the bead to the chipboard. This gives loads of dimension!
Chit Chat stickers to finish....
A little bland for me really...but a very good exercise in restraint!!

Love Me Do...

Hello!
I have a few hearts to share today...

I was playing with tin cans (....... coming soon to a magazine near you, but don't say I told you!!!), and I liked the result to much I wanted to use them on more projects. The inside of a baked bean tin has fabulous ridges, great texture! (other things may too, I didn't look! We have enough empty bean tins to last me hours without ever looking in another variety!)
I cut the tin initially with a pair of tin snips from the DIY store, but once the metal was bashed nice and flat, I discovered you can use Tonic scissors (the Tim Holtz ones) to cut the metal very easily. Just be careful, the edges will be very sharp!
I cut out some heart shapes, then coloured them with Vintaj patina ink. This is the red colour, Garnet. I edged them with a little blue paint, stamped them, then sanded the whole thing a little. Because of the ridges, the sanding works really well!
The hearts were than attached to a chipboard panel. I painted the panel with gesso first, then added smears of red (Dash Of Red) and cobalt....
I added a little stamping too!
As the hearts are metal, they need attaching securely. Strong glue would work, but I chose to use large eyelets. My cropodile went through both the metal and chipboard easily!
I finished by wrapping some wire around the panel, just to carry on the metal theme!
I thought it looked a little too shiny though, so toned it down a little with more Vintaj ink!
Some Chit Chat stickers added to the hearts gave me my title...Love Me Do!!
Have a great day!

A bottle full of wishes...

Hello!
I've made a painty canvas to share today, with lots of extra little details that you can use to jazz up those canvas projects!
The canvas itself (a 5 x 5 chunky box canvas), has had my usual treatment of smearing paint across it! I've used Golden paints for this, in teal and violet. I also added some rough puff paint areas to give some texture...

I did a little painty printing, but this canvas is all about the additions really, not the background!
I took two of the idea-ology glass vials, and dripped in a mixture of white glue, water and Indian ink. Put the cork back in, then shook them up. Poured away the excess, and you're left with an interesting coloured look to the bottle!
I glued on the bottles to the canvas, then wrapped some wire around them. This is purely for decoration, the glue is holding them on securely! I also twisted the wire to form a bow, then added that to the wire wrapping.
The feet for my canvas are made from rolled up paper spirals, painted to match....
Not to be left out, I also added interest to the top of the canvas. I coloured a paper flower to match the rest of the project, then added an idea-ology door knob to the centre...
I curled up the petals to it looks very dimensional from the side view...
The final touch as to add the letters, idea-ology again!

So... feet, flowers, door knobs and great big items such as bottles can all adorn your canvases!
See you soon!

A Project in 2 Parts

Now, what do I mean about a project in 2 parts....well, I received a piece of 8x8 chipboard in my DT pack and it ended up with me making a bit of a mess of it.......not just once but twice!

Part One

Anyhow, I started off by giving the chipboard an even coat of Claudine Hellmuth Black Gesso (love this stuff, you don't need much to give a good covering), then I added various Distress Paints and then various Tim Holtz Stamps - I added a few rub ons and then promptly hated what I done.
Here are a few photo's so you can see what I did......

I tried adding some photo's to see if it would miraculously make it better lol Obviously, it didn't!

Part Two

Right, so the second part starts with me taking the Claudine Hellmuth Black Gesso and covering up everything I did.....one even coat of the gesso was all I needed, told you it was good stuff.
I then took the 6x6 Donna Downey Floral Art Stencil and rubbed/dabbed some Picked Raspberry Distress Paint through. Before the paint completely dried, I took my finger tip and rubbed over the paint gently to give a slightly smudged effect. I then took some Lettuce paint by Ranger and rubbed a bit through the stencil over the top of the Picked Raspberry. I also rubbed both of the paints through some sequin waste.
One of the surprising things was, that the rub on word "Found", that I did the first time round was raised and you could still see it, I decided to incorporate it in to this by taking a bit of paint on my fingers and rubbing it over the top.
I stamped the Stampotique Original image called 'Single Tear' on to some pink and green paper (from my own stash) and added it to the piece, as well as some Dymo wording and a few more rub ons (own stash again). The numbers/wording are coloured using Picked Raspberry Distress Paint.

So, here it is.......What do you think? Was part 1 better?

A Simple Birthday Card

Paula here again, today I'm showing a really simple and quick birthday card........

Products that can be bought from the shop:

  1. Tim Holtz Idea-ology Alphaparts - Ransom and Newsprint
  2. Distress Ink Pads - Salty Ocean and Peeled Paint
  3. Stampotique Originals by Janet Klein - Rabbit (9230)

How to create this......

I basically, placed the Alphaparts/Letters on to the card, then stamped the rabbit. I then used marker pens to create the background as well as an ink spot stamp. I stamped the rabbit again on some stamping paper, coloured it, cut it out and adhered over the first stamped image. Finally, I got my old Dymo out and printed the word 'Wishes' out. See, I told you it was quick and simple!

Blooming spray inks!

Hello!
Thought I'd have a play with spray inks today....
Bit of an experiment, but I really like how it turned out! Now, spray inks and Kraft card (a size 10 tag in the case) don't really go together, the Kraft 'sucks up' any kind of vibrant colour. So, I thought, why not try stencilling with gesso, THEN spraying? The inks will be vibrant on the white gesso, but subtle on the cardstock........
I started off by adding a touch of black stamping to the Kraft tag....
I'm loving that alphabet Darkroom Door background! The stamping was my base layer, so when that was dry I scraped white gesso through the circle stencil. Left it to dry, then sprayed the whole tag with Dylusions spray inks...
For some reason the inks almost resisted the edges of the stencilled circles, giving a white highlighted look. Happy accident, no idea if that will work again!
The large flower has almost the same treatment... I stamped it in white (paint!) onto black card, then sprayed it. I like the subtle dotty look, but you could just as easily go mad and spray lots more for a more 'solid' feel to the colour....
As you have stamped onto black card, when you cut it out you automatically have a nice black border!
The final touch is a chit chat sticker..
From the 'seasonal' sticker selection rather than the regular... I found the seasonal one has loads of words you can use anytime as well as the more expected 'Easter' 'Halloween' stickers. Well worth a buy, I think!
Off to try and clean my hands... why oh why do I decide to do something so messy when I've a governors meeting at school shortly? They think I'm a little strange at the best of times, having bright purple hands isn't going to help!!!
See you soon,
Love Trish xxxxx
