Lost in words

Please welcome my mixed media painting today of a little bit lost girl. Is she lost in words, forest or in her thoughts? Interpretation is left to you...
This piece is made on heavy watercolor paper and the main principle is layer, layers and layers. I started by painting the face and using mixed colours from Dina Wakley Heavy Body Acrylics range. I also built up some details with Posca Paint Pens in green and violet.

My plan was to somehow get her lost in some words prints but I didn't want to use collage as that would cover her face up to much. I decided to do gel medium transfer from the magazine pages. Have you tried it?

It's becoming one of my beloved techniques recently. Dina Wakley gel medium worked just perfectly for this project. I prepared few strips of magazine pages and covered them generously with gel medium, then just simply glued them to the page bearing in mind that  the reverse site is what is going to appear on the page. The secret to a successful transfer is to let it dry properly. Once you pass that stage the paper has to be sprayed with water and rubbed off to reveal the reverse page.

For some splashes of vibrant yellow I used Dylusions Ink Spray in Lemon Zest and finish with writing the word "Lost" wit my favourite Bombay Indian Ink in Aqua!

The last part was using white gesso for creating texture with some random stencils.

And here are some more images with close up and how she looks on the wall.

Big Hugs!
Honorata

Your lady is quite beautiful, she has a slightly ethereal quality about her. I have not tried that technique but you have made me want to....

Lovely piece. Anyone who can draw has my admiration. The transferred words work very well, great concept! They also add cool shadow down her neck & around her face? The added texture from gesso & that it's white is clever, adding more dimension. One of the best things about mixed media is the layering....
I have used the transfer technique but not with magazine pages. Gives me ideas for all the cutouts I have collected (so pleased I'm not alone with that) Tfs

Quite simply stunning! She is haunted by her dreams, well that's what it looks like to me. Lovely painted background and gorgeous texture too Karen
